18th SELLARONDA BIKE DAY: A Highly Successful Autumn Edition
The autumn edition of the Sellaronda Bike Day, held today, Saturday, September 7th, continues to grow in popularity each year. Although the number of participants has not yet reached the records of the traditional June edition, today's event saw significantly more participants than previous autumn editions. A total of 18,000 cyclists (compared to around 20,000 in June) took advantage of the excellent weather conditions and the Dolomite Passes reserved for bikes to complete the ride around the Sella Group. In addition to Italian participants, many cyclists came from neighboring countries and Eastern Europe, as well as from America and Asia. The Dolomite Passes, closed to motor traffic, are gaining increasing importance and support. These events help raise awareness about the need for more sustainable efforts in protecting the heritage of the Dolomites. The organizing committee emphasizes that an event of this scale is only possible thanks to the close cooperation between the different valleys, the dedication of numerous volunteers, and the support of local and provincial administrations. 58 km of paved roads with an elevation gain of about 1,800 meters, crossing the legendary Dolomite passes. This car-free day is highly appreciated by all cyclists and is supported by the Tourist Associations and Public Administrations of the four Ladin valleys: Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Fassa, and Arabba/Fodom.
